Op deze tour vier je de 'Dag van de Doden' als een local en dompel je je onder in een van de uitbundigste feestdagen van Mexico. Je ontdekt oude tradities en krijgt een gedenkwaardig kijkje in een van de belangrijkste culturele evenementen van Mexico. Lucas, een van onze lokale deskundige gidsen, zegt: "Dià de los Muertos is een soort familiereünie – maar dan met een bovenaards tintje. Het is een vreugdevolle viering waarbij families hun dierbaren eren met verhalen, muziek, dans en natuurlijk heerlijk eten”.

Je trapt af met een duik in het kristalheldere water van een mystieke cenote – een ondergrondse rivier. Na deze verfrissende start proef je traditioneel festivalvoedsel zoals 'pan de muerto', een zoet brood gebakken in de vorm van schedels of botten. En hartige tamales, waarvan men gelooft dat ze de zielen van de overledenen troosten. Op deze dag kom je ook meer te weten over fascinerende tradities zoals 'offrendas' – offergaven aan geliefden – en de betekenis van feloranje goudsbloemen.

Dan stroop je je mouwen op en ga je aan de slag met de Mexicaanse keuken door je eigen guacamole te maken. En terwijl een chef-kok je de geheimen van de regionale smaken en kooktechnieken onthult, nip je van lokale wijn. Lucas voegt eraan toe: "We maken alle favoriete gerechten en drankjes van onze dierbaren om te laten zien dat we nog steeds om ze geven. En we zetten zelfs hun favoriete hapjes op de altaren – voor het geval ze honger krijgen! De tour eindigt met een maaltijd die de essentie van de dag weergeeft, met onvergetelijke herinneringen en een nieuwe inzichten in het rijke culturele erfgoed van Mexico.
