Lunar landscapes, black volcanic sands and red cliffs make Santorini a natural gem that draws visitors to the charming island of Santorini year after year. Multiple eruptions over the years have transformed Santorini into a five-island archipelago; consisting of Santorini, Therasia and Aspronisi and the Kameni islands at the centre made of entirely black lava. This volcanic zone is the most dynamic in the South Aegean and visitors have the chance to visit the active volcanoes on the islands of Therasia and Nea Kameni – known to locals as the Volcano.

The eruption was also responsible for one of the greatest calderas in the world – the edge of a volcanic crater – now lined by traditional blue-roofed houses that mesmerise all who visit. From the caldera, stunning views across the turquoise waters and neighbouring islands can be seen and you’ll get a glimpse of the island’s geographical history. Visit the active volcanoes of Therasia and Nea Kameni and walk over its active craters, solidified lava fields and steamy fumes. Its harsh moon-like landscapes will have you feeling out of this world.

At Palea Kamei, visitors can enjoy the mineral-rich hot springs and mud baths, known for their therapeutic and healing effects. Gaze out at the wild beauty of the Santorini Caldera in the distance and feel the power of nature around you.

“Pick up from hotel was on time. Bus journey to port took one hour. Organisation at port was chaotic, we were left waiting in bright sunshine with no shade for an hour before embarking the boat. Trip was good, although time visiting the volcano was a little short. On return, tour guides disappeared immediately and we were left to work out what to do. Our coach was not available, although luckily a local organised a mini bus to return us to the hotel. A good trip was marred by poor organisation”

“The guide taking us on the bus was terrible and really did not see the point of him. Made us stand outside the bus in the heat, stating everyone to arrive first before getting on. Then eventually when he let us on the bus we had to wait approx 20 mins for someone who hadn't turned up. No information was provided on the bus of to expect etc. He just said that's your boat as it sailed away. Fortunately the boat turned around and picked us up. We were literally individually thrown on the full boat”
