Historische ruïnes, stranden en zwemmen in ondergrondse grotten maken dit een ochtend vol actie. Je maakt een rondleiding door Tulum gevolgd door een bezoek aan een traditionele Mayagemeenschap. Bovendien duik je ook nog in een cenote. Benito, een van onze lokale gidsen, zegt: "Het grootste deel van Tulum dateert uit de twee eeuwen voor de Spaanse kolonisatie, dus het is een laatste momentopname van een gedoemde beschaving. Onder de vele dingen die je te weten komt, is de symboliek achter de godheden die in de tempels zijn uitgehouwen.

Eerst bekijk je de overblijfselen van de Mayastad Tulum. Samen met de deskundige gids zie je de tempels van de Fresco's, de Dalende God, de Winden en meer. En dan is er nog de piramide van El Castillo, die op de top van de klif ligt en uitkijkt over de Caraïben. Tegenwoordig is het populair op Instagram - het is de meest gefotografeerde locatie in de Riviera Maya. Gustavo, een van onze lokale gidsen, zegt: "Tulum is het perfecte evenwicht tussen cultuur en natuur - kijk maar naar alle leguanen die je er ziet. De oude Maya's waardeerden dit, en elk gebied vertegenwoordigde een van de elementen - aarde, water, wind en vuur."

Dan kijk je op je gemak rond in een Maya-dorp en ontmoet je enkele leden van de gemeenschap. Je komt meer te weten over de tradities en gebruiken van het dorp en eindigt met een duik in een cenote. Deze zoetwaterputten waren heilig voor de oude Maya's. Een beetje snorkelen in deze heilige grot maakt deze geweldige tocht helemaal af.
