Bijna tweeduizend jaar geleden verrichtte Plancia Magna baanbrekend werk door een indrukwekkende invloed uit te oefenen op de stad Perge. En dat ondanks de gebruikelijke passieve rol van vrouwen in die tijd. Ze werd geboren in een rijke, machtige familie. Maar in plaats van een gemakkelijk leven te leiden, gebruikte ze haar bevoorrechte positie ten gunste van haar stad. Haar moed, onafhankelijkheid en karakter werden nog lang na haar overlijden bewonderd en inspireerden vrouwen door de eeuwen heen om invloedrijke rollen in de maatschappij na te streven.
Je gids, die is opgeleid door National Geographic, laat je de oude stad Perge zien met de nadruk op het leven en de nalatenschap van Plancia Magna, een figuur die zelfs nu nog inspireert. Misschien was Plancia wel een inspiratiebron voor Hatice Adıgüzel, wiens werkplaats je hierna bezoekt. Je ziet welke vaardigheden en kunstzinnigheid er komen kijken bij het maken van lampen en tuinornamenten van kalebassen. Ze deelt haar succes door vrouwen in dienst te nemen om de kalebassen vanuit hun eigen huis te kweken en te decoreren voor het bedrijf. En ze bereiden de hapjes waar je tijdens de workshop van smult. Hatice wil vrouwen helpen die vanwege de zorg voor de kinderen of soortgelijke beperkingen niet in staat zijn om regulier te werken, door ze een gemakkelijke bron van inkomsten te bieden.
